No surprises, analysts say that Apple's iPhone is the top selling handset among AT&T customers. According to Strategy Analytics, the iPhone is grabbing 13% of phone sales among those who use AT&T as a carrier, The iPhone is also the number four selling mobile phone overall, despite the hefty price tag, moving 1.1 million units in Q3 alone. That brings total handset sales to nearly 1.4 million units, with the lucrative holiday season coming up.
"The sales trajectory we are observing with the iPhone could make it the top selling device in the US over the next one or two quarters," said Strategy Analytics' Barry Gilbert. Motorola's Razr V3, which is not limited to only the AT&T network, presently leads the market.
Also of note, one in four iPhone users are between the ages of 50 and 60, further debunking the myth that higher-end technology is too complicated for the early baby boomer set. Strategy Analytics feels that the large, responsive iPhone interface is a draw for the bifocal audience.
