By Richard Menta 2/7/06 With several manufacturers dropping out of the DAP race in the last several months, including Olympus and Virgin, should we be surprised that another major electronics manufacturer has decided to throw its hat into a very crowded the ring? Maybe, but one has. As picked up by RedOrbit, NEC announced yesterday that it will deliver its first MP3 portable this month. Details are scant on what this new player can do and we have yet to find a picture of it. Heck, we don't even have a name or model number for the darn thing, but here is the info we have so far. The new NEC unit will play both music and video. Furthermore, it will be able to record video making it a portable DVP. |
Wish we had more to offer. As NEC makes DAP chips for mobile phones it will
be interesting to see what the company will produce and if a new chip will power
it. Oh yeah, and if anyone will buy it in this iPod obsessed world we live in.
When more details comes in we'll tell you. So far, none of this has appeared
on NEC's english speaking sites and as our command of the Asian languages is
non-existant we'll have to wait for more news to trickle in.
